Convictions for sexual assault, unlawful sexual touching or rape, are potentially the most destructive life events. Sex crimes can lead to severe penalties with life-changing repercussions—from the possibility of life time prison sentences to court orders to social stigma due to being registered as a sex offender.

Sexual offenses trigger a great deal of emotion. Such serious charges require immediate legal attention and protection from an experienced and dedicated advocate. At Snowmass Law, our principal attorney, Arnie Mordkin, has successfully represented numerous clients charged with sexual assault.

His extensive knowledge of the nature and complexity of sex crimes allows him to develop effective strategies to fight challenging cases. We understand how sexual crimes can be confusing and scary, and we are here to give our full support to put you in the best possible position.

Facing Sexual Assault in Colorado

The mere accusation of committing sex crimes is enough to ruin a person’s life. Sex crimes are one of the easiest to fabricate. To that end, it’s incredibly vital to seek representation from an attorney who is skilled and knowledgeable in defending the criminally accused.

Snowmass Law understands the severity of sexual assaults. Our criminal defense attorney works vigorously to protect the rights and clear the names of those wrongly accused of sex crimes. We represent clients in different areas of sex offenses, including:

1. Rape

Any form of unwanted sexual intercourse or contact that involves force, threat, retaliation, fraud, or lack of legal consent is considered rape. Sex is automatically considered non-consensual if one party is unconscious or intoxicated. Rape cases can result in heavy penalties, such as years up to life in prison.

2. Unlawful Sexual Contact

Unlawful Sexual Contact involves touching the intimate body parts of another person—including touching over clothing—without consent. This unwanted sexual contact is often done for gratification, sexual arousal, or abuse. Depending on the circumstances, sex offenders can be charged with a felony or a misdemeanor crime.

3. Indecent Exposure

Indecent exposure involves purposefully showing one’s own private parts in a public space to cause offense or alarm. This case is often considered a misdemeanor. Punishments can be a fine or up to one year of incarceration, depending on the severity of the offense.

4. Prostitution and Solicitation

Sex-related services that involve an exchange of money or things of value are the common forms of prostitution or solicitation. These include:

  • engaging in sexual intercourse or sexual act for money;
  • soliciting sexual services from prostitutes;
  • having a third-party solicitation on behalf of prostitutes; and
  • exchanging sex-related services for goods or another service.

While prostitution and solicitation are considered misdemeanors in Colorado, being accused of these crimes can negatively affect a person’s social well-being in tremendous ways.

5. Public Indecency

Lewd conduct in public occurs when offenders reveal intimate parts of their body in public for the purpose of arousal or sexual gratification—this includes public sexual intercourse or contact. Public indecency is punishable with heavy fines and up to six months of jail time.

Sex Offender Registry

Under Colorado’s law, anyone convicted of most sexual crimes are required to register their name and address on the sexual offender registry. This registry is made available to the public and can be accessed through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Being registered as a sex offender can enormously affect the offender’s relationship, job prospects, and future.
